Ian Lloyd-Jones on his new problem Ecdysis V8/7Bish Photo: Lloyd-Jones collection

Ian Lloyd-Jones has climbed a tricky slab line left of Violent Snatch on the Rhiwlas boulders. Ecdysis follows a line of really thin crimps, avoiding the arete on the left and is totally independent of Violent Snatch.

Ian explains:

“I went up to have a go at Violent Snatch V6/7, thinking I'd have to work it at this grade but also knowing that slab climbing on small holds suits me. Anyway, it went on sight first go feeling like a V3! I'm not sure if it's well over graded or whether things just flowed because it's my style of climbing, I don't boulder much so have no real concept of the V grades.”

“Anyway, having got there with the intention of working something, I had a look at the left hand side of the same slab. Had loads of goes until the loss of skin and pain in my fingers got too much then went back two days later and finally linked it all.”

“Again, with little idea of the V grades all I can say is it's a good few grades harder than Violent Snatch. I guess if it was on a climb I'd be thinking British 6c.”

A few days later Jamie King made a single session repeat, praising the quality of the problem and suggesting a possible grade of V8/7B. Jamie also added a new line to the nearby Junkyards boulder. Eat My Junk V3/6A starts as for Eat my Detritus but carries on along the obvious crack line into the finish of Junkyards of My Life.
