Danny clinging to fossils on the steep Fish Pie 7C Photos: Chris Doyle

.

The word on the street is that Danny Cattell has shaken off his chronic injuries and is well and truly back in the game. Last week he ticked an 8A problem at the legendary Denbigh Den training board (which translates as about 8B/+ in outdoor grades, and that’s not a joke either!); consequently, an excited buzz of anticipation has spread through the North Wales scene.

Danny has always had a keen eye for new problems and today he grabbed an obvious line at the Pigeon’s Cave Boulders below the Marine Drive in Llandudno. Fish Pie 7C starts sitting as per 14 Years Later (which takes the central up line) and traverses the steep face rightwards to a finish up the adjacent 7A Fossil Aręte.

On the same face Chris Doyle reports a hold breakage:

“The hold everyone uses on 14 Years Later has come off. Some people thought it was 7B+ before. I did the moves but didn't manage to link it. Defo 7C now, and maybe a hard one.”

(NB. Danny's 7C grade for Fish Pie should be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt!)
