Joe Sterling on the first ascent of Lady of the Lake 7A+ Photos: Verity Handlon

.

.

Joe Sterling recently paid a visit to the quiet backwater of Cwm Trwsgl, the little visited area at the top end of Cwm Pennant (and just over the ridge from the Beddgelert Forest). He came away with a new problem on the Lady Boy block (see page 172 in the old NWB guide).

Lady of the Lake 7A+ is a sds under Lady Boy Arete heading into the groove on the left and finishing up past the pod.

The direct sds to Lady boy Arete remains an obvious (and obviously hard) project. Although it is quite a trek up from the main Tremadog road (close to a 25 minute drive, followed by a half hour walk in) this small collection of blocks, plus the more recently developed ones further up (see link below for pics of the immaculate 7A aręte, Close to Tears) are made of some of the finest dolerite in Wales; exquisite stuff!

Of course it is possible to take a shorter route over from the Beddgelert Forest – this is particularly worth considering if you have a mountain bike.
