Si Panton demonstrating his new problem 21st Century (Digital Boy) V7/7A+ Photos: Phil Dowthwaite

.

Last night Si Panton picked off another neat line on the Wavelength hillside in the Llanberis Pass. 21st Century (Digital Boy) V7/7A+ lies on the Toxicity block in the Lower Satellites.

It starts sitting as per the central line, In the Attic. A series of powerful pulls lead up then out left to a distant side pull. From here an insecure lurch for the sloping top provides a frustratingly on-off crux.

“It’s another one of those lines that I had tried years ago but had forgotten about. I was out one night last week and remembered it. I also hadn’t done Toxicity so this block seemed a good choice. When I got there the main crux hold of Toxicity was roasting in the sun, so I shifted my attention to the shady face to the left. I sussed out the individual moves fairly quickly but the final slap just didn’t work on the link. It took a second visit and a change of sequence before I managed to snag the sloper at the top, and even then it was really 50-50.”

Said Si, before adding:

“It’s a cool problem, really intense.”
