Francis Gowling on the crag classic: Problem 1 on Block E V2/Font 5+ Photo: Gowling collection

Francis Gowling and Tony Shelmerdine have developed a boulder field in the far north eastern corner of the Carneddau. Thus far there are over 20 problems up to V4/6B and some potential for harder lines. The rock is excellent quality and the landings are mostly good.

The Afon Tafolog Boulders are best accessed from the village of Tal-y-Bont; take the road next to the Bedol pub all the way up to the ‘Roman road’ (dead-end) below Tal-y-Fan where there is parking for approx 8/10 cars. Head back down the lane 500m or across the field and the boulders are down on the right under the pylons.
