Ric Potter going for it on Indian Face E9 6c photo: Big G

With the recent trend for soloing Peak gritstone E7s above snowy platforms (‘snowballing’ is I believe the correct term - see helpful link below), it seems pertinent to show the North Wales version of this. Big G reports back from the front line

Dear NWB.com readers,

the hills of Snowdonia have held true to their name during the last month with vast amounts of snow and ice covering up crags and boulder fields alike. While out on my travels I ventured up to Cloggy to have a go at some of this winter climbing lark and came across International Mountain Guide, Ric Potter bouldering out the top of the Indian Face.

Such was the enormity of the snow bank leading up to the route that only the top 15 feet was visible. Ric reckoned that he was still going to tick it in his guidebook – “All’s fair in love and war ‘n’ all that.” he muttered as he ground out the snowy mantel at the top.

‘I wonder what Johnny will think?’ - is all that went through my mind as I followed suit moments later with the second onsight of this much coveted route.

Regards,

Big G
