The glued up hold Photos: Si Panton

Ted Kingsnorth - the man with the (glue) gun

As some of you may be aware on account of the UKB thread (ukbouldering.com) posted by Chris Doyle, there was a dangerously loose hold at the junction of The Greek, Whisky Bitch, and Drink Driving on Pill Box Wall. This has been rattley for several years, but appeared to be getting worse in recent months. It was feared that if it broke off it would crumble into several pieces and thus be impossible to restore to its original shape.

Luckily a very public spirited Ted Kingsnorth stepped in (after getting some resin advice from hold repairer par excellence, Jon Fullwood) and did the business this afternoon. The resin still needs to be sanded down and is probably best left for a few days before it is used in order that the bond will be as strong as possible.

Ted had a very productive climbing day too, bagging a hat trick of V11/8as. Firstly he did Pit of Hell and Cavelife in Parisella's Cave before heading around to Pill Box Wall. Ted had been working his way through an extensive tick list here and today managed the second ascent of Chris Doyle’s desperate Malteser – Last Rites link, confirming the quality and V11/8a grade.
