Sam Cattell powering through Gasoline (d’ya know what I mean?) V8+/Font 7b+ photos: Si Panton

.

Sam Cattell continues his campaign of development at the Pantymwyn Devil's Gorge in the Clwyd Valley. His new problem, Gasoline (d’ya know what I mean?) V8+/Font 7b+ starts as for Spark’s, but breaks upwards a metre or so left of the Firestarter exit via a desperate slap from two finger slots to an edge on the upper wall. The stand up itself warrants V7/Font 7a+, and is a hard and independent line that will please campus monkeys.

In the same session, Sam repeated Adam Hocking’s sitting start to Be Ruthless, confirming the grade of V10/Font 7c+

As more people have started to boulder in the gorge a degree of consensus has started to emerge. The following list represents the latest thinking on the relative difficulty of the main problems:

Firestarter V6/Font 7a

Spark’s V10/Font 7c+

Thug Mental is still a project, but probably V10/Font 7c+

Mental Extension V8/Font 7b

Thug Mentality V8+/Font 7b+

Panty’s Down V7/Font 7a+

Be Ruthless V9/Font 7c

Be Ruthless sds V10/Font 7c+

Under Pressure V11/Font 8a

Under the Bridge V8+/Font 7b+

See the link below to Chris Doyle's film showcasing several of the classic Pantymwyn problems, albeit in Sam's powerful style (beta will only apply to those who have made extensive use of campus boards).
