Dave Ayton cutting loose on Be Ruthless V9/7c (photo: Ayton collection)

Adam Hocking climbed the project sitting start to Be Ruthless (a V9/7c in its own right) at the Devil’s Gorge in the Clwyd Valley. Starting on the right side of the cave/hole he used heel and toe trickery to gain the starting pocket on the original problem. Adam begrudgingly rated it V10/7c+ - he normally grades all new problems V9/7c!

Adam commented that the bouldering is good quality and well worth a trip. He did query the grade for Spark’s thinking V11/8a more appropriate than the given V9/7c, and conversely that Thug Mental was probably only worth V10/7c+ instead of the V11/8a book grade.

For full details of the venue, which was initially developed by Sam Cattell, see the new Rockfax Clwyd Limestone guide.
