Ding Dong sporting his new cast, photo: Si Panton

A note of caution for all you cave devotees. On Friday night Neil Dyer fell from the crux of Director’s Cut V13/Font 8b (going into the shothole); there was no pad or spotter beneath him and his left hand took the full force of the impact. A quick visit to the hospital confirmed that he had broken it in two places, and that he would be out of action and wearing a cast for six weeks.

“Just before I pulled on I got this strange feeling that this would be the last time I would climb this line. I thought it meant I was going to do it. I felt good on the moves leading into the crux and when I got there I really went for it – my feet held, but my hands ripped.” Commented Neil.

Neil had intended to continue with the Upper Cut link if he made it to the end of Director’s Cut.
