Blair Witch Boulder (photo: Si Panton)

Chris Davies has climbed a couple of new problems on a new boulder in Capel Curig. Directions: go over the river bridge opposite the petrol station in Capel Curig and follow the potholed track to the T-junction/right turn leading back towards the Plas y Brenin boulder. There is room for one carefully parked car on the bend (failing this, just park in one of the parking spaces closer to the river.) The boulder can be seen directly above, up the hill slope in the trees.

So far Chris has climbed a good looking V4/6b called Blair Witch which starts on the obvious sidepull jug, before slapping sideways to the juggy shoulder on the right via a couple of crimps. Secondly, a tasty V6/7aish direct sitting start (Evil Dead)from a bit further right with the same awesome slap to the top.

The traverse line left-to-right needs doing. The currently dirty central wall will probably go but the landing puts it into the distinctly highball/bone crunching category.

A visit can easily be combined with the nearby PYB boulder.

Makes you wonder about what else there is lurking in these woods – and I’m not talking about witches, although you may find a few of them too.
