Streaky celebrating (post ascent) with his son Liam at the 50th birthday party at Hendre, Tal y Bont

Graham – ‘Streaky’ – Desroy made an historic ascent of the famous Llanberis Pass boulder problem on the day of his 50th birthday party. Jerry Moffatt first climbed it in 1989, and it has since become one of the most coveted lines in the area.

Streaky was particularly pleased with the ascent as it meant he had burnt off his son Liam (aged 18) who had only managed to do the ‘tourist tick’ – an easier (i.e.V8+) variant that pulls on at the flakey jug 3-4 moves into the full sequence. Most impressive was the bedraggled condition that Streaky found himself in on the day, having stayed up the previous night until 4 in the morning drinking his spirits cabinet dry in a supposed pre-party warm up.

All that remains for the old git is an ascent of Bus Stop (another V9, but this time at the other end of the grade spectrum), which young Liam made quick work of during a recent visit.

When questioned about his ascent of Jerry’s Roof, Streaky commented, “I’m not competitive at all, but there really is no finer feeling than burning your own son off!”
