Chris Davies on the first hard move of My Own Private Idaho Photo: Joe Sterling

…and holding body tension on the second hard move Photo: Si Panton

Chris Davies has nailed his project line on the Wonderwall block in the Crafnant boulders. My Own Private Idaho takes the steep wall right of Cruella on tiny edges and finishes up the top section of Riley’s Arete.

Chris had been trying the line a lot over the last 6 months and his glee at reaching the finish was obvious when he spoke yesterday:

“I've finally sent it! I was up there with Joe Sterling today, and the conditions where something else. Everything seemed to work properly, and the moves where exquisite!

“The name is due to the way the area dictates a real sense of peace - today was no exception. As for the grade, I have no idea, but this is very much the hardest and most tenuous thing I have climbed anywhere so hazard a guess! Very good climbing on very good rock - the sort of problem you would fly to get to. Very happy and big ups to Nodder for the countless days he's spent getting me up this.”
