Looking along the Marine Drive from the top of the LPT descent, photo: Si Panton

Simon Panton reports a worrying trend on the Marine Drive:

“I was bouldering at Parisella’s Cave last night and I noticed towards the end of the evening that a climber drove back down the Marine Drive, instead of continuing round as per the access agreement.”

“Shortly after I over heard some other climbers discussing doing the same. I approached them and pointed out that they shouldn’t do so. Initially they pointed out that they were only following the example of others. When I explained that there had been problems in the past they did the right thing and drove off in the correct direction.”

“I would urge all climbers to respect the one-way road rule and take the small amount of extra time it takes to drive over the top (or indeed the very pleasant drive all the way round the Orme).”

”Failure to comply with this request could jeopardise access to the Pen Trwyn crags.”

(NB. In 2007 Conwy Council received specific complaints about climbers driving back down the Marine Drive - see the link below for more details.)
