Jordan Buys latching the diagonal hold on his new Cromlech problem, Mowgli V8-9/7b-c Photos: Dave Parry

…and pulling through to finger jugs at the top of the steep wall.

Sunday afternoon saw a surprising new line fall at the ever popular Cromlech Boulders in the Llanberis Pass. Despite carrying a hefty hangover (the result of a late night whisky drinking session at the BMC International meet party) Jordan Buys still found energy to complete a long forgotten project line. Mowgli climbs the wall above the sitting start of the classic V6/7a, Bull’s Problem, starting as for that problem for the first few moves then pressing back right (off the intermediate that you snag with your right on the final moves of Bull’s Problem, except this time you take it with your right) to an obvious diagonal edge. A further hard move connects with a high edge, before finger jugs can be grasped, and the top soon after.

Given his slightly ragged state Jordan was unsure about the grade, guessing that something between V8/7b and V9/7c might be appropriate. The line had see attention from local climbers a few years back; for example Chris Davies had tried a more direct version snatching straight up for the diagonal hold, but had not returned to finish the job off.
