Dear NWB.com readers,
Here we are again, and welcome back to Boulder of the Month everyone. This month’s morsel is the much discussed ‘shield bug’ boulder (gr 634566), so called as it barely resembles a beetlelike creature making its way up a wide shallow gully between the Cromlech and Scimitar Ridge in the Llanberis Pass.
The attention of the weak shall be focussed around the right end where a groove provides interest as a sit down. Some may simply wish to sit down hereabouts and admire the surroundings. The obvious shelves left of centre leading to glorious mantles provide more sport (pictured). The traverse of the right hand section could not be completed by staff here at Boulder of the Month, but is a wild venture on huge holds. The obvious right hand grab top and mantle on through also stopped those who attempted it (Adam Wainwright). The quality of the boulder is out of all proportion with the landing, toward the right side; health and safety buffs beware.
Regards,
Big G
(NB. NWB.com would like to apologise for the poor quality of the photographs supplied by Big G and the Boulder of the Month crew, looking as they do much like our man dropped the camera on the floor and sent in the results. This technique of course only works at exquisitely photogenic venues such as Porth Ysgo.)
