Just prior to moving back to his native Ireland, Nige Callender climbed one last new line on the Wavelength hillside in the Llanberis Pass. Slán V6/Font 7a takes the undercut blunt arete on the big roof in the stream just behind and below the Utopia block.
“It starts standing on two opposing holds just below the lip, and there’s a foothold in a pocket out left. A surprisingly good problem, but it is made of that slightly crumbly rock, like on Message to Rudy. Named it Slán (pronounced Shlawn) which is the Irish for Goodbye.”, explained Nige.
Nige made quite an impact on the North Wales scene during his time in the area, climbing several notable first ascents and making some hard repeats, including Halfway House V12/Font 8a+ in Parisella’s Cave, and all that despite being dogged by some difficult shoulder injuries. NWB.com wishes him well on his future travels.
