The more acutely aware readers of NWB.com may have noted, perchance with a tinge of sadness, the absence of the ever-popular Boulder of the Month feature. Well, worry no more my friends, as normal service is about to be resumed. Big George is back again with a classic piece of Bethesda esoterica. (NB UKB.com readers may recall a competing claim for the ‘mouth problem’ by yer man Huffy, as expressed in a recent thread on this popular forum. NWB.com has no wish to stoke the fires of controversy and hopes that Big G and Huffy can sort their differences in a gentlemanly fashion.) Anyway, take it away Big G:

Dear NWB.com

This little known spot nestling among the Bethesda woods in Nant Ffrancon will provide great satisfaction to the more eccentric, and perhaps more easily satisfied among us. There is little here to satisfy the narrow vision of the purist, but those possessing an improvisational bent will find worthy challenges, not least the traverse of the quarry top.

The obvious "mouth" gives a very absorbing V1. Note also the large twisted oak tree whose split bough provides a home for a substantial mountain ash. This sense of remoteness is rarely achieved 60 seconds from the road. (GR 630653)

Regards,

Big G
