Chris Doyle on the Left Wall High section of The Highlife V11/8a (photo: Si Panton)

...nearly there, just that final desperate fingery section...

Chris Doyle climbed an awesome new stamina link in Parisella’s Cave today.

The Highlife V11/8a starts on the wobbly flake underneath Rock Atrocity then moves up to the diagonal jug, before reversing The Big Link/Pilgrimage traverse to gain the left wall. It then follows Left Wall High all the way to exit the cave.

"I spent the whole session working In Hell, then I thought I'd give The Highlife project just one go right at the end. The final section of Left Wall High felt absolutely hideous, it always does to me, whether I'm warming up on it or after a load of hard climbing, it doesn't seem to make any difference, it's always hard!",commented an exhausted Chris after his ascent.

The previous day Chris also repeated Gaz Parry’s link Cave Life, which he confirmed as hard V11/8a. (This had already seen repeats from Mark Katz and Danny Cattell). Gaz started his link at the old ‘middle of nowhere’ Pit of Hell start. This has now been superseded by Mark Katz’s problem In Hell, which comes out from a more logical start on a jug on the back wall. Thus the two obvious unclimbed challenges are to link In Hell into the Left Wall Traverse or even harder, into Left Wall High.
